Musca domestica
Musca domestica, larvae
The larvae of Musca domestica (house fly), may occasionally cause "accidental myiasis" or "pseudomyiasis." They are not obligate parasites, having no need for developing on a host, but may colonize wounds and feed on live or dead tissue. Like other myiasis-causing fly larvae, they can be identified by several morphologic features including their posterior spiracles. A pictorial key for identifying these larvae can be found HERE.
