Mite, zoonotic

Humans can be a temporary food source for a variety of zoonotic mites. The mites can be differentiated from the human parasitic mites, Sarcoptes scabei and Demodex spp., by their generally larger size, longer legs and more numerous spine-like processes. Definitive identification is best left to a medical entomologist, but may be useful for identifying the source of an infestation.
