Giardia duodenalis
Giardia duodenalis, trophozoites
The trophozoites of Giardia duodenalis (a.k.a. G. intestinalis, G. lamblia) are among the most recognizable parasites, having a characteristic 'kite' shape with 2 nuclei, central axoneme, and curved median bodies. They attach to the intestinal wall using a large ventrally-located sucking disk and move via 4 pairs of flagella.
