Howell-Jolly bodies

These are Howell-Jolly bodies: erythrocyte nuclear remnants seen mostly commonly in asplenic patients. Their primary significance is that they may be mistaken for chromatin dots of Plasmodium spp. trophozoites when seen on thin or thick blood films. However, unlike true trophozoites, Howell-Jolly bodies don't have associated cytoplasm.
